The transformation of work driven by digitalization and artificial intelligence has created new skill requirements that underline the importance of continuous learning and training. However, traditional, broad-based training programs are becoming less effective as both demand and the specificity of training needs increase. Effective training must address both the needs of employees and the organizational learning conditions. The design thinking methodology offers a solution by systematically tailoring learning formats to these requirements. This article presents a five-step process based on design thinking to develop tailor-made learning opportunities. The approach was tested in an online-based training format with training and development professionals. It became evident that design thinking offers various advantages to the development of further training measures.
